The Best of the Quest take two.  The Blob decided to participate by prancing all over my keyboard *sigh*

I'm not ready for this to be over yet.  I have so many recipes that I printed off that I didn't have time to make.  I expect I will be eating off the Quest menu for quite some time.

I have to call this one of my two choices - I am making it again for dinner tonight. It is better than any I have had in a restaurant.

The other choice would have to be this delicious version of my favourite Thai Soup

There are too many Honorable mentions but I will show restraint

I will be making this many times - such a nice flavour for such a simple recipe

and just one more because it was so very good and I am a huge Shrimp and Pasta fan

The REAL best of the Quest however were the people.  If I could have the same team mates year after year I would be honoured.  They were a great bunch of ladies and I feel priviledged to have gotten to know them better. It was team like no other!
To Susie, the Tour Guides (Nancy is actually a member of The Sisters), and all of the organizers - you really are the best.  The work that you put into this and the innumerable hours spent are humbling and greatly appreciated.

I love the Quest! What a wonderful excuse to stuff myself with wonderful recipes from all over the world.

I struggle with the Best of the Quest every year. I truly loved every dish that I made. And the really sad thing.......I still have a stack of recipes that I printed out but didn't get a chance to make. image

My choices for this year surprised me for a couple of reasons. By chance, I made them both in the same meal........and the region was Japan....not what I would have predicted.

My winners were:

image

I'm picky about my teriyaki sauces. This is an easy and flavorful marinde that makes a delicious end result. Reminds me of a Hawaiian teriyaki. Thanks, Mike.

So simple, flavorful and good - both warm and room temperature. Thanks, Lori.

Thanks to all of the players for sharing your recipes! I'm still hoping to discover some more winners that I wasn't able to make this round. image

So hard to narrow down the recipes to just two, but here are my top two for Quest 2016:

1.  http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/beef/miso-marinated-flank-steak.html by Vickie Parks -  This recipe is from the Japan leg of the Quest.  I really had never tried any recipe or dish that had miso and ended up just loveing the taste and tenderness of the steak.
image

2.  http://www.food.com/recipe/lizs-morning-glory-muffins-444761 by sofie-a-toast  - This recipe is from Bahamas leg of the Quest.  I loved how moist and tasty these muffins were and with a dab of cream cheese, breakfast is ready!!!
image

Since it is so hard to just pick two, here are two that made it to Honorable Mention:

1.  http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/salad/potato-salad/potato-salad-18.html by Vicki Butts - Bahamas
image

2.  http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/drink/cocktail/japanese-slipper.html by Lynn Clay - Japan

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE WONDERFUL HOSTS WHO MAKE THIS QUEST, YOU ROCK!!!  I can't wait for next year's Quest!!

Thank you to all my wonderful teammates, captain Lucy, co-captain Pan-Nan and team guide - Lazyme, you all rocked it each round!!

Aaargh! This is the toughest part of the game!  I have ten links open, too hard to choose... but here goes.

The best of the best was Northwest Gal's  http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/seafood/shrimp-sardi.html?p=1 . From the NYC region. I chose this one simply because I wanted to drink the sauce, so it barely made it to the table over the shrimp.  I loved the technique of the base made with the shrimp shells - it was so flavorful!!!  Thanks, Vickie!!!
Next, it would be Diner 524's  http://www.food.com/recipe/grecian-skillet-rib-eyes-427985 .  From the Greece region. Wow! That touch of lemon juice squeezed over the grilled steak was unbelievable. Matter of fact, we're having those for dinner again tonight. Thanks, Lynn!!!

HONORABLE MENTIONS - can't avoid those! But I promise not to post all eight...

Ok it was really hard to pick two but our picks are:

 Vicki Butts (lazyme)’s http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/side/vegetable/herb-roasted-eggplant-with-tomatoes-and-feta.html?p=1

Made our number one pick because we love roasted veggies and who knew that just adding fresh oregano and feta could give it such a boost, another plus is this dish can be either a side or put on top of a grain such as couscous to make a main dish.

 twissis’s http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/pina-colada-carrot-pineapple-salad-bahamas-24426

Made our number two because it is so different from other carrots salads and we thought hint of lime and the chopped nuts just pushed it right over the top.

Recipes that I would share and highly recommend, but barely missed making the top two are:
 Annacia’s http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/sandwiches/how-to-make-katzs-famous-pastrami-reuben.html?p=3

 twissis’s http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/garlic-roasted-japanese-eggplant-24173

 JostLori’s http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/chicken-and-pork-adobo-24339

 LeggyPeggy’s https://cookingonpage32.wordpress.com/2016/04/12/avocado-tomato-and-feta-toast/

and last but far from least was Kathy D’s http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/drink/non-alcoholic-drink/new-york-egg-creams.html

Best o' the Quest!  by Stacy of the Sisters o' the Pans!

Always tough to choose, but my very TOP two this year are.....

http://www.food.com/recipe/cherry-sake-cocktails-522941 by Momaphet
Why? Because I love this cocktail and drank it for almost 3 weeks straight!  I always have had to throw away left over sake after using it to cook just one meal.  It only lasts a week or so, or 3....image  Combined with the Bada Bing sweet cocktail bing cherries and ginger beer and it was absolutely perfect to quench my thirst while cooking in the summer heat!  I'll never have to throw sake down the drain again!!  Thanks Momaphet!image

image

http://www.food.com/recipe/artichoke-heart-and-tomato-salad-460021 by sofie-a-toast
Why?  This was the family favorite!  First, who knew artichoke hearts in a can would be so good?  But it's the feta dressing that makes this dish so awesome.  We used it on the salad of couse and then chicken and I could see this with a cold pasta salad too!  Versatility and flavor put this one at the top! Thanks S-a-T!!! image

image

Very Very Honorable Mentions go to...

http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/salad/green-salad/the-classic-wedge-salad.html by lazyme
The blue cheese dressing is amazing!  Thanks lazyme!

http://www.food.com/recipe/filipino-lumpia-deep-fried-pork-spring-rolls-527476 by PanNan
Lumpia have been on my cooking bucket list and this one was a keeper.  And I got to make them with my mom which made it even better!  Thanks PanNan!

http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/japanese-garlic-fried-rice-24249 by Twissis!!
I've been trying to find the right fried rice recipe for years.  This is the one.  Flavors are exactly what I've been looking for!!  Thanks Captain!! imageimageimage (That's you of the left, I think Leggy P on the right, and your favorite naughty pineapple in the middle)

Thanks to Nancy and Susie and all the tour guides for another great tour!!

My Best of the Quest 2016

First I want to say that I simply could not have had better team mates or guide. To me these ladies are the very Best of the Quest on all fronts. I'm honored to have been a part of this group. There was warm friendship and laughter shared in abundance. Careing and looking after each other. Thank you hosts and planners . I know the months of prep, the difficult and tireing work you gals put in so that we can enjoy as fine an experience as you could find anywhere online.

For my Best of the Best:

Chicken Souvlaki Kebabs  By Lynn Dine
Simply delicious and it truly transported somewhere in Greece. In my imagination that was the countryside. The ingredients are lovely as individuals but together they become a real culinary pleasure.

A top notch recipe that I've already made for the second is:

Orange Slices w/Star Anise Thai-Style By C G

Not a high end restaurant item but something I love a lot because it's just plain yummy and made with things I always have on hand. It's quick and very easy to make, and just keeps gets better with time. It's one of those rare things that just become family members right away.

Highly Honorable Mention (that all came so very close to top spots):

Oh my gosh, how could I possibly forget???  A HUGE "Thank You" to everyone behind the scenes - organizing, scheming, having fun! I had the BEST teammates and team captain, Lucy. And how to possibly forget our lovely guide, Vicki?

Also, a huge thank you to everyone that participated and contributed recipes. This is the most fun I have all year - even if I do gain 5 pounds...

I love this event and look forward to it all year.  The food, the challenges and the people, plus I get to play with the best group of hosts ever.

I made a lot of recipes this quest and enjoyed them all.  Narrowing it down is very difficult...so I have decided to do it this way.  I will pick my two favorite dishes and then will name 3 honorary dishes, because they are all worthy to be Best Of.

Thank you to those of you who tried my recipes and thank you to everyone for sharing your recipes. image

http://www.food.com/recipe/thai-cucumber-and-pineapple-salad-503445 by PanNan

This dish was awesome, I knew that I would enjoy it, I just didn't realize how much.  I have made it three times and it is just as good each time as the first time.  After I made this delicious salad, I thought about it for three days, before I had to make it again.  So good, love the combination of herbs, pineapple, cucumber and sauce...so very delicious and memorable.

image

http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/salad/potato-salad/potato-salad-18.html?p=15 by Lazyme

For my second favorite I chose this delicious recipe because I am not a fan of potato salad but this is so good, I couldn't help myself, I made it again for my granddaughters birthday bbq dinner.  It was enjoyed by everyone.  Lazy your recipe has made a potato salad fan of me.

image

Honorary Mentions

- Little Orange Cakes (Bolinhos de Laranja)  by Vickie

These were so good, that I had a hard time stopping myself from eating them all.  I was shocked, I never do that.  Light tender fluffy and flavorful, a wonderful dessert.  One I will make often.

image

Tomato Salad with Fried Feta  by PanNan

This truly was an amazing dish.  I never tried fried feta before, but I see it in my future... often.  So good, so many wonderful flavors in this recipe.

image

- Heaving Apple Pancakes  by diner

Anyone that knows me, is aware of my love affair with pancakes.  This recipe was truly a no brainer for me.  I loved this souffle style pancake that was light, tender and full of apples and cinnamon.  So good, I will be enjoying this often.

It turns out we're not leaving until the morning, so I'll repeat my Best Of right here!
My Best of the Quest are:

Azores  http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/salad/other-salad/chourico-and-quinoa-salad.html?p=9 by Mikekey
I loved the combination of the nicely spiced sausage to enhance the nutty texture of the quinoa. I also liked the smooth, cool avocado. Oh heck, I liked everything about it!!
 image

Also,  I chose another Azores http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/beef/prego-no-pao-garlic-nailed-steak.html by Baby Kato.
The meat was so tender and flavorful! I usually don't cook a lot of beef, but I'm so glad I did with this one - it's a winner!! DH loved both!
image

And since I had some extra time to think about it and see that other folks are mentioning some extras, I'm going to mention my also wonderful picks:

Greece   http://www.food.com/recipe/quick-greek-spinach-and-chicken-orzo-142560 by momaphet (good hot, cold or in between)
NYC http://www.food.com/recipe/maple-white-chocolate-chip-cookies-455047 by Sofie-a-toast (can't stop eating 'em)

I had such a good time cooking, looking, being challenged, eating, all of it. I cannot imagine how much work this is for you leader types - organizers, guides, captains, mates. I am grateful that you're all willing to take on all the responsiblilty and work. How you guys come up with the ideas is amazing. Thank you, thank you! (Now I can make my waaay late choice for First Time Tag! - when we get back from vacation!)

Shalom!

Good Morning Everyone,

This has been a wonderful tour -- great players and, of course, lots of good food.  We had such great meals at my house, and like everyone else, I had a hard time choosing two top recipes.  After much reminicing about all of my delicious meals, here they are:

http://www.food.com/recipe/eggplant-casserole-melitzanes-me-kreas-sti-katsarola-169829 by Twissis

image

This was comfort food at its best for me -- eggplant and a rich tomato sauce which I served over rice and gourged myself.

It might be easy, but it was awesome and the dressing is to die for -- I think I licked my plate on this one.

Thanks to all of our players -- without you, this game wouldn't be possible.  I had a great time and a wonderful team -- loved working with each and every one of you Ladies!  And finally to my Partners In Crime -- I love you Ladies --thanks for another great year!

I look forward to seeing all of you next year!!!!

This is the first year that both my DH's and mine are the same.  Our 2 favorites were both from NYC.

http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/sandwiches-of-mr-arnold-reuben-24608 by Forever Mama   The delicious russian dressing was part of the recipe and it made the whole sandwich.  We are going to be making this recipe regularly.

Thanks to all the hosts and Susie D for another wonderful quest.   I appreciate all the time and effort needed to put this on.
BK is the best host in the world.  She is a fabulous tour guide and anticipates all our needs before we realize we need them.
Muffin Goddess was a wonderful First Mate.   She was there all the times I really needed her.  We had a wonderful team.  They worked so hard on challenges trying more than one time to satisfy a challenge.  They were like the energizer bunny of teammates.
