I have always wanted to make a real Reuben sandwich, but - alas - I cannot eat rye bread, so I was excited to find this variation of a Pastrami sandwich:

I could use gluten free ciabatta rolls - yeah!!
Also I happened to have some original US-apple butter (our German apple butter is very different, more like treacle).
Only problem seemed to be the pastrami, but to my delight one of our local groceries offered international specialties when the Olympics started, and between Spanish chorico and French garlic sausages I found - pastrami!! Yay!!
So DH and I hugely enjoyed our first ever pastrami sandwich image
Nearly forgot to add that it took me exactly 22 minutes to put it together (I'm slow at grating cheese)

I'm happy you were able to try a version of this famous deli sandwich and liked it!  image

O yes, I'm determined to corn my own beef, make some mock rye bread and then try a Reuben with Sauerkraut and corned beef, too! Not suitable for a challenge, but I really want to try it image

For the Sister team, I have made the delicious deli creation of http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/sandwiches/open-faced-apple-butter-pastrami-sandwich.html#page1:comment2169962 by Linky    This was our first introduction to pastrami and we all loved it! Great flavor combinations going on in this deli sandwich. Thank you!

I see your appeal for that sandwich, LIG.  Pastrami is one of my favorite sandwiches, and that one sounds delicious!  I'm glad you liked it.  I'll get your completion noted on Page 1.

Here to report that I've made Annacia's:  http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/sandwiches/how-to-make-katzs-famous-pastrami-reuben.html#page1:comment2170218      to complete the Deli Challenge.  Sorry that I'm not posting a pic, but family ate it before I could take a good pic.  Also being in a vacation cottage with poorer than poorer lighting surely didn't work well for taking pics.   I used Susie D's awesome dressing: http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/salad/green-salad/smoky-thousand-island-dressing.html?p=4  in these sandwiches which made it extra interesting and delish.
